Ryan Lofton Payne is a graduating senior at Texas State University class of 2011. Ryan was the first President of Texas College Democrats to not hail from the University of Texas. During his administration Texas College Democrats made a name for themselves across the state and nation with innovations like the TCD iPhone app, increased Facebook presence, and one of the quickest transitions in TCD history. TCD history was changed again when over 20 students and 13 universities from across Texas attended the College Democrats of America National Convention in North Carolina. During the 2010 election, TCD created a competitive election strategy and had the foresight to predict that Dallas county could turn blue, focusing attention to the county by holding the second annual Fall Conference in Dallas. TCD strengthened its ties to the state party as well as organizations, such as the Burnt Orange Report, during Payne’s tenure and with the Texans for Tomorrow campaign TCD reached out to activate conservative college Democrats. Nationally, Texans now are more involved with the national organization holding a variety of chairmanships and appointed positions. Ryan is currently serving as College Democrats of America Southern State Party Outreach Coordinator and Chairman of the Constitution Committee. Ryan’s two proudest accomplishments while President were bringing in DNC Vice-Chair Linda Chavez-Thompson to TCD as the very first Honorary Chair and being able to work alongside such a dedicated and visionary executive board. Ryan will graduate in May 2011 with Bachelors degrees in History and Political Science.
