Fall Programming:
Texas Wins:
Forty years ago, the 26th Amendment to the United States Constitution was signed into law, and 20 million new voters aged 18-20 were able to register and have their voices heard for the first time.
Flash-forward to today, and many will state that students today simply don’t care. I will argue that this isn’t true until I’m blue in the face. We just don’t know how. We don’t know the ramifications of not voting. If we continue to not participate, we end up hurting ourselves in the long run.
We’re young, so we think we’re invincible. We think that nothing will ever go wrong. But the truth is this: we must figure out how to plan for the future, while still remaining true to the people we are now. We are young, we are idealistic, and we are ready to do big things.
We are at a point where student voters across the country are not able to vote where they attend school. And many people will sit down and just take it. But not us, not Texas College Democrats. We’ve faced adversity like this before, and we’re not going to back down from a fight.
In order to show up, we must inform. We must educate our fellow students on the importance of voting, and the impact of their singular vote.
I can’t personally meet every college student in the state of Texas, but through TCD’s chapters, we can expand the knowledge base to every corner of the state. We can exchange the same information, and we can get Texas back to a place where students have a voice. We can have a win for Texas through a better-educated voting population.
I am very excited to share with you Texas Wins, a Texas College Democrats Program designed to educate students on the importance and implications of voting. This project has been a labor of love, and we hope it makes a positive difference on your campus, your city, and throughout the great state of Texas.
When we vote, Texas Wins.
