Letter From Our President

My Fellow College Democrats,

Foremost, welcome to the Texas College Democrats website! By bringing yourself here, you have proven your interest in involvement in politics and service to the community, for that I am proud. Texas College Democrats strives to make information easily accessible to those who seek it and ensure plentiful opportunities for those wishing to partake in the world of political activism. This chapter of our lives is perfect for acquiring knowledge; college serves to achieve formal education and activities to achieve experience, an understanding one would otherwise never possess. It is evident that our generation thrives on social interaction, our chapters serve as the personal interaction while this site serves as the online establishment to provide resources and connection with the statewide organization.

Additionally, a society of monotonous thought remains in a state of stagnation while that of plurality thrives. As such, do not hesitate to share your ideas with the board so we may integrate them into a progressive programs agenda to serve our peers.

Spring 2013 Programming:

With the recent rise in shootings, Texas lawmakers are looking to make out of touch changes to “prevent” events like the Newtown massacre from happening here in Texas. Senator Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury), author of SB 182, and other Republicans in Austin are pushing a change to the concealed carry law; allowing students, staff, and faculty with a concealed carry license to carry their firearms on the premises of public institutions of higher learning (private institutions can consult with students on this issue). As students we must stand up to prevent this alarming legislation. Take a moment to tell our lawmakers that universities are not places to carry guns, but cultivate learning and the future leaders of tomorrow.
